Montgomery's "Exposition On The Signs And Symptoms Of Pregnancy, The Period Of Human Gestation And The Signs Of Delivery" is described as "one of the classics in British obstetrical literature" (Kerr, Historical Review of British Obstetrics and Gynaecology) With 12 full page plates. Eleven of the plates are beautifully and delicately hand-coloured, nine depict the Areola of the Breast at various stages in pregnancy, three depict pictures of Ovaries and Uteri. Montgomery was the first to discover the subtle changes in the areola in the early stages of pregnancy and they have been called "Montgomery's glands" ever since. "Montgomery's glands" - the sebaceous glands of the areola, and his 'tubercles' (the secondary areola seen in pregnancy) are both described in this work. "Montgomery's chapter on 'Mammary Sympathies', containing his description of the breast changes of pregnancy, has never been improved upon. The symptomatic fullness and general enlargement of the organ drew only his passing notice, whereas he dealt with the areola in minute detail, considering its size, colour, texture, and, most important, the intra-areolar papillae previously identified with the name of Morgagni, but now better known as the tubercles of Montgomery" (Speert, Obstetric and Gynecologic Milestones). "Montgomery's classic . . . with its beautiful illustrations in colour unsurpassed even to-day. . . . one of the classics in British obstetrical literature" (Kerr, Historical Review of British Obstetrics and Gynaecology) Montgomery's book concludes with "On the Spontaneous Amputation of the Fetal Limbs in Utero". Which includes 6 engravings of examples of spontaneous fetal amputation. 12453 Price:
