Theodore Beza, Theodore de Beze French Geneva Holy Bible La Bible, Qui Est Toute La Saincte Escriture Du Vieil & Du Nouveau Testament: Autrement L'Anciene & La Nouvelle Alliance. Le Tout Reveu & Confere Sur Les Textes Hebrieux & Grecs Par Les Pasteurs & Professeurs De L'Eglise De Geneve A Geneve. Geneva Marchands Libraires & Imprimeurs 1588 First Edition Full calf Very Good Book 1588 First Edition of the full revised French Geneva Bible revised from the Olivetan Bible by Theodore Beza. Printed in Geneva in 1588 by a printer unnamed on the title page, though to the verso of the title states "Advertissement Aux Marchands Libraires & Imprimeurs "Les frais de cet ouvrage, imprime en trois diuerses formes en mesme temps, pour la commodite et contentement de toutes sortes de personnes, ont este liberalemet fournis par quelques gens de bien, qui n' ont cherche gagner pour leur particulier, mais seulement de servir a Dieu et a son Eglise". A nice clean complete First Edition French Geneva Holy Bible, complete with the books of the Apocrypha. Size octavo, leaves numbered not pages. Old Testament 412 leaves, Apocrypha ( Apocryphes ) 96 leaves, New Testament 130 leaves plus 4 pages Index of Names at the rear. Later full brown calf binding with five raised bands and gilt titles on label to the spine, marbled end-papers, page edges waxed red. Condition very good, the binding is a later calf binding, probably late 18th century, the leather is rubbed on the covers and at the corners and edges and heavily rubbed on the spine with also a tear to the calf and loss of the right edge of the title label. Internally a very clean and complete Holy Bible with the Books of the Apocrypha also. The title page is slightly dust marked with a very tiny 1mm tear to the upper edge other than this the pages are incredibly clean throughout. Printed in two columns in a crisp clean Roman type with notes in the margins, attractive woodcut headpieces and initial capitals at the start of each of the books, and the argument at the start of each book printed in italics. A lovely early 1588 Geneva Bible en Francais. Hard to trace another copy anywhere as there is no printer's name stated anywhere in this Bible, though an interesting Printer's device to the title page depicts an angel reading from the Bible whilst standing over a skeleton leaning at the base of a small cross. 014444 Price:
