Signed and inscribed by James Paton to John Mills "To John Mills Happy Memories (rd. page 48) Jim Paton" Pages 48 and 49 refer to a young John Mills coming over to China with his theatre company, The Wilson Barrett Company, and putting on a number of memorable performances. 1974 First Edition. Size 8" x 5", 246 pages. Light blue cloth covered boards with gilt dragon on the front cover, Pastedowns and endpapers hand-drawn maps of China. Book condition near fine, corners and spine edges slightly rubbed, else fine. Dustjacket condition near fine, edges slightly rubbed, very slightly grubby, else fine, not price clipped. A Scot who worked for Sun Life in the Far East before World War 2.The book, privately printed, records his impressions of China.The illustrator, Philip Meninsky, was a Prisoner of War under the Japanese in World War 2 and his drawings were used in the War Crime Trials. He is collected and has exhibited in Scotland. 10788
